ABOUT US

About

The school first opened its doors in 1990 and has faithfully served Coachella Valley music students ever since. In 2009, while finishing her Bachelor’s degree in Music, Nicole Radford had the opportunity to take ownership of the school where she took lessons as a child. Growing The Music School has allowed her to pursue her dream of sharing her love for music with learners of all ages.

The Music School faculty is made up of qualified, caring music educators. All instructors are university-trained and share a passion for music, children, and adult learners. We are proud that we get to share in the successes of our students each day.

The Music School works in cooperation with Coachella Valley schools and organizations and has provided classes in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club, the Demuth Community Center, Palm Springs Unified School District, and the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.

Our emphasis on one-on-one instruction helps students build confidence and achieve their personal goals. Many of our students participate in their school ensembles, church bands and compose their own music. Alumni have gone on to receive scholarships, study at the university level and participate in local and national competitions.

A note from our Director

Since I was seven years old I knew I wanted to teach music when I grew up. I loved the way it challenged me and I loved the feeling of learning something beautiful and complicated.

Although I was always a good student all-around and I did well in my music lessons and classes, there were many days in pursuit of my music degree when I questioned my abilities and was unsure if I had what it takes to excel in music.

The things that got me through the difficult times and propelled me forward were my love for the music I was learning and the tough-yet-caring approach of the teachers who mentored me. These learning relationships were life-changing; it was during this time that I felt a renewed sense of purpose intensify from the spark that started when I was a little girl.

There is nothing better than helping someone on their journey to connect, express and create. Growing up in the Coachella Valley with a love for music and taking lessons at this very school as a child gave me insight into what is important and valuable in the pursuit of music education in the desert. Palm Springs has a long-standing connection with the entertainment industry, but even with a rich musical pedigree, I believe there can be a disconnect between loving music and learning music.

It is my goal for The Music School to equip every music-lover who walks through our doors with the tools they need to grow into a knowledgeable musician. At the same time, I want The Music School to ignite a passion for expression and creativity in every learner who dedicates themselves to the challenging study of music. It is my sincere hope that each of our students connects with music, whether their goals are to become a classical musician, a pop music superstar or just to learn how to play “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.”
